WHY MOUNTED?
A Unique Way to Serve Los Angeles Parks
Mounted patrol offers something uniquely suited to Los Angeles' parks, trails and open spaces: the mobility of horseback travel combined with the visibility and personal presence of a Park Ranger.

From the saddle, Rangers can navigate trails and expansive park areas while maintaining an elevated view of their surroundings. At the same time, horses naturally create opportunities for conversation, education and positive interaction with park visitors.
ACCESS & MOBILITY
VISIBILITY & PRESENCE
COMMUNITY CONNECTION
Horses allow Mounted Rangers to navigate trails, open spaces and park terrain that may be less practical to reach with conventional patrol vehicles.
From horseback, Rangers have an elevated view of their surroundings while remaining highly visible and approachable to park visitors.
Horses naturally invite interaction, creating opportunities for Rangers to connect with families, children and park visitors through conversation, education and positive engagement.
Mounted patrol isn't simply about traveling on horseback. It's about being present on the trails, in our parks and among the people who enjoy them.
Bringing Rangers, Horses & Communities Together
IN OUR COMMUNITY
The Mounted Unit creates memorable opportunities for Park Rangers to connect with the communities they serve. Through youth programs, educational experiences, community events and public appearances, Rangers and their equine partners help bring people closer to Los Angeles parks, horsemanship and public service.
